current official temperature in Athens: 11º
feels like: -2º
my content reading class was canceled today due to the snow so I only had my 4-5 non-western history class. For the 10 minutes that it takes me to walk up to Bently Hall and the 10 minute walk back to my apartment, every part of my body began to ache from the severe cold.
Thankfully I have my Target fugs to keep my feet warm, but I am in the market for new gloves and a cozy hat that will cover my ears. It's wonderful how every winter gets colder and colder, right? North Carolina, here I come.
In other news, I am freshly obsessed with Rockabye Baby music. If you love xylophone versions of you favorite alternative music, these are clearly the CDs for you. So far my favorite albums are the lullaby renditions of Pink Floyd and No Doubt. It's so nice to listen to music that I know well in a relaxing, calm inducing form. In the future when all of my friends have babies, I will have the coolest presents at all of the baby showers.

finished ahead of schedule

Mushroom Chicken Chowder
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can of milk
1/2 can of water
1 can of chicken
chopped mushrooms
1 tsp old bay
1 tsp garlic powder
- in a cold pot whisk together soup, milk and water
- bring to a boil
- reduce to medium heat and stir in mushrooms, chicken, garlic powder and old bay
- cook for 5 - 7 min until thick and serve

Aaron and I have plans for gross valentines day stuff on thursday.
dinner uptown then Casablanca at the Athena.
i'm pretty excited.
i just added a politics widget to my desktop.
it makes me feel informed.
yay obama!
also, i made a podcast today for my education and technology class.
if i can figure out how to post it on a public server, i will share.
if i can't figure it out then you are s.o.l.
in weather news, i hate rain/slush/snow/ice/freezing rain
we got all of it today
i just about broke my face on the walk to class
why doesn't college have snow days?

I went to the pet store today.
Usually I hate stores that sell pets, fluorescent lights, lonely pairs of eyes, walls of cages filled with hopefuls, unattached. I went in looking for a tiny, furry, baby thing that needed me even more than I needed it. The girl at the store asked if I was looking to buy. I lied and told her that I was considering it. She smiled and happily opened the exact cage I pointed to through the plastic wall. My hands ached to hold the kitten she was bringing me.
I didn't tell anyone that I was going. It didn't matter. All that mattered was my 45 minutes in a temp box, sitting on the floor, holding a little grey kitten with big glossy eyes and pristine paws.
I cried.
